Middle English (in the sense ‘bulging bag’): probably of Scandinavian origin. The original sense of the verb (early 16th century) was 'cause to sway or sag’.
In its modern definition, and the way todays generation use the term, the word swag refers to personal style or confidence, also referred to as 'swagger'.
